Musicians in the Making

I am so excited to be able to be used by God to help ignite in our young people a desire to worship the Lord.

Other than my “day job” at New Creations Boarding School, I also serve in the music ministry. As I write new music, the students are my Guinea pigs. I reason that if they like it, then it is worth playing for them in the church. If they don’t like it, then I assure you, they let me know.

What has come from this trial and error approach is that we are developing musicians and song writers in the dorms. They see how I construct the songs and are developing these skills for themselves.

Back in January 2012, I had two musicians in the boys’ dorm and only two or three on the girls’ side. It is now April, and we have 5 guitar players, three horn players, a drummer and a keyboardist in the boy’s dorm, and six musicians in the girl’s dorm with roughly the same talents. Several of our youth are even learning multiple instruments.

It is incredible to see them focus and refine their talents to use in the worship of our God. At the end of each month we have a “youth service” that is student led. These young people are put to the test as they conduct the entire church service.

Words simply can’t express how proud I am of these kids, as I have seen the amount of practice and dedication they put into this monthly service come to fruition. As I look on I can’t help but be moved by their passion.
