One piece of advice I always give parents who are considering sending their student to a boarding school is to remain positive. If you are sending your student to boarding school for punishment, you should not send them at all.
Boarding School should be viewed as a place to help them get their lives straight, so put a positive spin on it as much as possible. If you are looking for a positive result, then remain positive, and you’ll find that this is going to be hard enough. I compare it to disciplining a child out of anger versus disciplining them out of necessity in order to help them correct their behavior.
Generally, you, as a parent, have been watching your student’s behavior go steadily downhill for a period of time; you’ve observed how that behavior and your child’s downward trends affect both you and your household. Boarding school does not tend to be the thing you think of first when situations such as these get out of hand.
So do not look at placement in a Christian boarding school as a matter of discipline, but more as a positive effort by you to assist your student in order to help them make their own proper decisions that will bring life and not destroy it.
If your son or daughter is wayward, and you feel that you are at your wits end, please feel free to call me anytime, and we can discuss whether New Creations Boarding School would be a good fit for them.
