When I first met “John,” he was struggling with his faith, and his expectations of the future. I was brand new to New Creations, but he had already been in the program for a period of time. I understand the discouragement kids go through. My prior years of ministry had shown me the brutality, and the nature of the enemy.
I believe with every fiber of my being, that John has been called by God. I know that God has a plan for John’s life. But I also know the devil desires to derail the life of an individual that God has chosen for His purpose. I have seen it again and again. Not just in ministry, but in my own life.
I was able to share some of my own personal experiences with him, and the draw from the Word of God, to expose the plan Satan had for this young man. The truth had set him free. John was able see the deception of the enemy, and began to understand the deep affection the Father has for him. He could finally see that he did have a future, and that future was obtainable. The lies of the devil were just that, and no longer had any power over him.
Through the months that I have known this young man, he has developed an intimate relationship with the Lord. He has become a daily Bible reader, and a true advocate of truth. He has risen from obscurity in the dorm, to a mighty leader for God. I have seen him demonstrate Godly character and integrity when there were many other options open to him… and he made the hard choice.
My job now has shifted to the task of helping this young man find and develop his gifts. I expect him to spend what time he has left at New Creations, doing that very thing. I believe he will. Because “I am confident in this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
